3The idea behind this is simple Marlins need to add payroll to avoid a union grievance that would threaten their revenue sharing. Mariners shed Haniger and help the Marlins with that process as well as give up two guys who could get real playing time in Miami and would be under control for 5+ years.
I didn’t know the Marlins were in possible grievance with the union like the A’s.
Yeah they don’t have to spend as much as the A’s but they are in a similar situation and don’t really have anyone to spend it on.
