1For Seattle this deals from a position of depth and clears salary, which they are rumored to be trying to do to enable a larger signing. Bregman is the latest rumor out today, as he can play 3B/2B. It also gives Seattle a great prospect in Alcantara that can take over RF soon. It also gives them a younger C prospect, but since Cal will be the catcher for the foreseeable future, it gives them depth in the system. Assad is a great back of the rotation starter, with club control. For the Cubs, this gives them a top of the rotation arm and a great C prospect. They can take on the salary of Castillo and remain under the luxury tax. They can afford to give up the depth in the OF.
