Pretty much all the first basemen have come off the board, and the Mariners are probably deciding between Alonso and Diaz. Given the Mariner’s finances, I’d assume they prefer Diaz over Alonso. This trade sees them add Diaz to 1B and a good SS/2B prospect to their AAA team for ML depth, while trading Castillo to Boston and freeing up some cash for additional moves. The Red Sox acquire a SP and a LHRP for the here and now. Rays are in minor rebuild mode and take quality prospects back in trade.
