3Rays go BIG, Athletics $pend a little and get closer to that magical $105, Pirates fire GM Ben Cherington but make the wild card.
I don’t hate it for the Rays and I don’t even think it hurts the Rays that much in 2025. Rays have a 6 man rotation now, so swapping Ras and McClanny for Skenes still allows the Rays to field a 5 man rotation (but without the injury risk that Ras and McClanny have). I always figured Fairbanks and Cleavinger would get traded for mostly prospects, so they can get moved with no problem. Same with Diaz and Lowe, except I thought the Rays would get a couple bats for them, which they need more than pitching. So this trade mostly works for the Rays. They don’t really need all the pitching, but pitching is easy to move so it’s really not a huge problem. Rays would never consider this trade in the real world but it kinda works here.
Down vote for the A's. And a pox on Forst for being a source of inspiration.
