Hernaiz should not be the first choice to play 3B; otherwise the A's wouldn't be in the market for a vet 3B. But Hernaiz would not be AZ's first choice to take over 3B for Suarez... that would (likely) be Jordan Lawlar. Hernaiz serves as depth at multiple infield positions in 2025 and is young enough to grow into more in the future. The A's get a plug-and-play 3B and pay him enough to get the Union off their back. Forst is again overpaying and considering how he's already surrendered two draft picks... what's one just-over-the-rookie-threshold for a rental 3B?
