1This is an interesting trade for the Rays. I like both pitchers; however, Vivas doesn’t work, as the Rays have shown they won’t play poor defensive rookies with less than above average bats. Vivas’ lack of power will keep him in AAA with the Rays, making him a wasted piece in this trade. So that leaves Flores, who is what makes this trade intriguing. Fangraphs ranked him the Yankees #34 prospect this time last year and MLB Pipeline ranked him outside the Yankees’ top 30 just a few months ago. On the other hand, BA must love this kid because that’s the only explanation for him having $7MM in trade value. From what I can tell, he is a power hitting bat who might stick at catcher. That can be pretty valuable and might be worth the gamble. Unfortunately, the Rays don’t trade players to the Yankees, so this trade proposal is DOA.
