👍 if the Mariners sign Bregman & Santander, otherwise I think they’d pass. 👍 from me for the Red Sox.

The time for half measures is past. Red Sox need another big name pitcher for their rotation, and Castillo below $20MM AAV should work for ownership.

The logic for this trade is pretty straightforward. Mariners want a RHB for 1B and are willing to trade Castillo for salary relief. Red Sox have shown a willingness to trade good prospects to improve their 25-26 Rotations. So this trade sees the Rays trading Yandy Diaz to Seattle to play 1B/DH. Yandy is just as good as Alonso and Walker but will cost half as much (conveniently enough, about the cost savings from this deal in going from Castillo to Littell). Littell replaces Castillo in Seattle’s rotation and the drop off is minimal (if any), as Littell produced the same fWAR last year as Castillo. The Red Sox add another good SP to their rotation at a price point that their surprisingly cheap ownership is willing to pay. Rays get two top prospects for their Farm. The amount of cash in this trade is probably more than would be required in the real world, but including $10MM was the only way I could get the trade through the monitors.
