The Blue Jays could be an interesting team to watch at the winter meetings. On the one hand, they had back-to-back off-seasons in which they were willing to add considerable payroll but failed in both cases. They have a number of quality pieces, but each have higher price tags and limited control that would hinder their return. Do they try to supplement in some places and run it back now that the Yankees and Red Sox missed out on Soto and the O's presumably will lose their Ace making the AL East wide open, or do they view their failure to get Soto and Ohtani and the impending FA of Bichette and Vlad as a reason to retool the roster and move on from some higher priced contracts? In this deal, the Jays move 62M in 2025 and 22M in 2026 and get back 2 highly rated SP with upside. The Cubs would be adding a much needed power bat in Vlad, who had been tied to the cubs in the past and a veteran rotation piece from the right side that could help balance out their rotation. They would be adding 50M in payroll which is hard to see them do (even though they are a big market team) but this could be offset by moving the 17M owed to Suzuki and a future deal of Bellinger. The Phillies would get the RH bat they need in the lineup and an IF option in Bo Bichette. He is a better defender than Turner, but if he refuses to move from SS, Bo has played some second and could probably play third. Ideally, Bo takes over at SS, Turner goes to second for the season, and Stott could man third if they dealt Bohm, or Stott could be shopped. Porter Hodge seemed to have found something last year in the bullpen role for the Cubs and has the stuff that Caleb Cotham works really well with.
