Casey Schmitt has 1 minor league option remaining and no real shot at a starting gig in SF. The Giants have a lot of LHH bats in the OF, Ruiz offers something different. It might not be a good different... the A's have been adding groundball pitching and Schmitt's glove at 3B would be a boon. His bat in the line-up? Maybe not so much.
