If the Phillies trade Bohm, they will need someone to play third. Aiden Miller is not ready, and a platoon of Sosa and Kody Clemens is not too reassuring for a potential playoff team. I don't see them as a player in the FA market, but I think that this could be a match. In the worst-case scenario, Mead is a replacement for Sosa down the line with his positional flexibility. But I would want to give him a shot at the starting job at third. As for the Rays, they seem to always be enamored with the athletic glove first CF. They just traded Siri as his salary started to increase. Rojas could step right in for him. I also think they have a number of options in the IF but not many OF options so Mead could be expendable at this point.

I didn't look up values but instead of Rojas would one of Abel, Nori, Burkholder, or Rincones match up? Idk if straight up would match but maybe minor pieces added in from both sides, TB already has so many weak hitting OFers they really could use one with offensive upside, Abel might be interesting cause TB is good at fixing pitchers and Philly is good at improving hitting and maybe they could unlock Mead.

MP your thoughts? Am I off-base in my evaluations?

The official Rays line is that they traded Siri because his salary was increasing and also because they were so impressed by DeLuca’s play post-Aroz trade (when he started playing everyday and saw his offensive number jump). Personally, I think Deluca is a stop gap until C.Simpson or A.Smith is ready. The Rays also have J.Mangum available to play CF with his recent promotion to the 40 man. Taken together, I would be surprised if the Rays made a move to strengthen CF this year, but I was surprised as hell to see them sign D.Jansen for $8.5MM. If the Rays aren’t punting on 2025 for 2026 and beyond, then they might be uncomfortable with Mangum as their primary CF backup. All that said, C.Mead is definitely available, and a prospect heavy return would definitely work.
