The problem with this trade for the Rays is they already have a Justin Foscue on their roster in the form of Curtis Mead (ie: former top 50 prospect with issues in the field), and they aren’t giving Mead opportunities because of his issues in the field. They certainty aren’t going to trade for another Mead.

It’s true, the Rays don’t make out great in this scenario. Foscue was the best fit here from the Rangers, and this was a move initiated by them. For the Rays it’s a salary dump, so they would simply move Foscue as part of another deal and probably get two future All Stars out of it. Whatever the ultimate outcome, I have no doubt they will get a much better return than this when they eventually trade Springs.
