1Why the Blue Jays do this? There is no guarantee that they can or will resign VG Jr. This gives them a power bat with a controlled contract through '27 at a very nice price who can slot in to CF, moving Varsho to LF or RF and Springer into the other corner. It gives them a GG 2B with a decent bat and good speed on a nice contract. And they can move Horowitz to 1B where he should be. It also gives them a couple good SP prospects with decent floors. Why the White Sox do it? They restock the farm system with ready or nearly ready top talent. This is an easy play for them. This gives them their 2B, SS, and CF of the future and they can slide Montgomery to 3B. Carnario is out of options and might develop into their RF if he can cut the Ks. Wesneski slots in the rotation to take Crochets spot to see if he can become a full-time SP. And Howard is a flyer and possible utility. Why the Cubs do it? Assuming they move off of Bellinger in another move, this gives them a middle of the order bat they need. VG Jr slots in at DH and part-time 1B. Busch can play some 2B and 3B also. Suzuki goes back to RF. Shaw gets a shot at 2B, and Triantos is there too. The Cubs can resign VG Jr, long-term. Crochet slots in at the top end of the rotation. The Cubs can also resign Crochet. This move wouldn't prohibit the Cubs from still pursuing Sasaki, and if they did, they would have a rotation of Steele, Imanga, Taillon, Sasaki, and Crochet with Assasd, Brown, Wicks, and Boyd as spot starters and long relief. The bullpen is still a proven closer away from lowering risk, but another deal could be had, even during the season. This would be a Cubs roster that would be favorites to win the division.
