A Y.Diaz trade to either the Astros or the Mets makes a ton of sense to me. Neither team wants to pay Alonso $20-25 million over 5 or more years (understandably I might add), and both have holes at 1B if they don't sign Alonso or C.Walker in free agency. The Astros also have a huge hole at 3B if they lose Bregman, and reports suggest they want to free up cash to fill some of these holes. The Mets don't have a cash problem of course. So this trade has the Astros trading Valdez to the Mets to free up cash, and acquiring Y.Diaz to fill their hole at 1B. The Rays are pretty ambivalent on where Y.Diaz goes, but they prefer the Mets' Farm to that of Houston's. In this trade, the Rays strengthen their outfield, catching and pitching by moving Diaz. This trade doesn't happen until after the Rule 5 draft though because Ullola is eligible and in my opinion likely to be drafted.
