The Pirates MASSIVELY improve their 2 weakest positions, without spending much in cash and without spending much in young talent. It's their 3rd catcher, an underperforming 1st round pick, and an MLB ready SP with a low ceiling. The Rays are rebuilding in my scenario. Full rebuild. Everybody goes. If they win 50 games in 2025, it's 20 too many. The Rays get 2 former premier prospects that have fallen in expectations. Their possible catcher of the future, and the former 4th overall pick from 2 years ago. They also get a SP that's near MLB ready and a far off prospect.

I don’t expect a full rebuild, which means Josh probably sticks for another year at least.

I dunno, I kinda like this for TB. Dump some salary and acquire some pedigreed prospects who have underwhelmed. Certainly a GREAT trade for Pitt.

Trading Yandy makes sense, but not Lowe, who is still pre-arb. As for the return, I like Rodriguez but he’s a risky headliner considering he’s been on the shelf for a year. Johnson doesn’t interest me at all, being all of 5’7 officially (ie: probably 5’6 really) and unable to hit .800 OPS in the minors. Harrington is solid but unspectacular. Rays ain’t trading Lowe for this return. Yandy for Rodriguez plus should work though.
