Down vote for the A's. One thing GM Dave Forst has made clear is that he wants the 2025 team to be better... I don't understand how this trade would appear to do that. Ortiz is an interesting arm but Harrington profiles as a back end SP, something the A's already have in stock. Henry Davis isn't going to replace Langeliers behind the plate and if he needs to show a lot more bat if he converts to the OF.

The scenario I had in mind for this trade is if John Fisher tells his management team that the target date for a contention window to open is the Vegas arrival in 2028. Yeah, it would certainly make the A’s worse in the short-term, but maybe Davis could benefit from a change in scenery (like Bleday did with you guys just this year).

Bleday came over in a much smaller Challenge trade for an oft-injured RP. As for Fisher... he's a silver spoon scumbag and you can't trust a word out if his mouth BUT he has said he wants to ramp up spending while in Sacramento. That he, in essence, wants a full blown Contender in Las Vegas Day 1. Still, Rooker is not on track to be around when the Vegas move happens and if the A's can get impact help then maybe a trade makes sense. A change of scenery bat and a backend SP doesn't qualify as impact help.

In place of Davis, who might be acceptable pieces from the Pirates org that might make this trade acceptable?

My first thought is scrap everything and build a deal around Bubba Chandler... but that ends the discussion. I wouldn't trade Chandler for Rooker if I was Pittsburgh! I don't think the Pirates are a good fit for a trade; their Good pieces are really too good for Rooker and their next tier of talent kinda sucks. Endy Rodriguez is interesting if his shoulder is healed but it also means the A's would need to flip Langeliers; Forst isn't trading Rooker for Ortiz and a backup Catcher! Harrington is out, he doesn't fit the power arm profile the A's have focused on. I think you need a 3rd team to make a deal happen.
