If Emerson is in the mix then I don't really see a spot for Arroyo, and the rest of the pieces aren't very interesting. Emerson for Miller has legs but there's not enough there to include Rooker in the mix.

My thinking here is this would be the A’s getting a high end guy and then bulk on top with high ceilings that should all be ready when they debut in Vegas which is likely the next time the ownership cares about competing.

I will withhold my snark about Fisher actually caring about winning in Vegas... I hear what you're saying, I just disagree about the quality of the non-Emerson pieces being offered.

I feel pretty good about my evaluation on this trade since both sides feel like they are giving up a bit too much which probably means it’s pretty close to what it would actually take to get such a deal done.

I'm curious to hear your evals on Arroyo, Evans, and Peete... because as I see it those are the guys that are supposed to get Rooker to Seattle.

Kmiksovsky

I really like Arroyo, his biggest downside is he doesn’t have a huge frame so his protectable power is limited but he has over performed in the power department every year in the minors vs his scouting report so he might be able to overcome his stature. Evans is high floor probably at least a number 4 but his metrics on his pitches hint that he might have some high end potential. Peete is a wildcard. He probably has the highest ceiling but his floor is also the lowest. Peete could be an MVP or a guy who never plays in the majors or anywhere in between.

That's fair overall, although I think Arroyo's Power output will be fine if he can stick at 2B and I'm more concerned about the glove part of that equation... My problem is that's not enough to justify removing a key piece of the 2025 line-up. The A's already a bunch of 4/5 types that could hint at more and they've gone away from tooled-up wildcards. Arroyo's biggest issue here is he's redundant to Emerson, who has the higher ceiling and the potential to fill a greater organization need at 3B. Which of Rooker/Miller is of greater importance to Seattle?

Kmiksovsky

Rooker is the guy they would want but Rooker’s value is tricky because he is bat only and it seems the A’s asking price on him is probably too high so I was trying to think of a way the A’s get the guy they want from the Mariners (Emerson) and the deal actually makes sense for the Mariners which is why throwing Miller into the deal. If this deal was done I think a majority of Mariners fans would actually hate it even though it would drastically improve the team today.

I agree that Rooker's value is tricky. The age, K's, and defensive limitations vs. Top 10 hitter per wRC+ and he's only owed $5 MM. If the A's push for Emerson/Rooker they're just trolling Seattle. I could see them legit ask for Ford.
