4Rays continue to stock up on pitching, while trading their big bat 2B to San Fran who got hardly any production from 2B last year (72 wRC+ and 0.4 fWAR). If the Giants really want to improve in 2025, 2B is an area of need that this trade solves.
I think the Rays (will be unable to find a team willing to trade for Brandon Lowe) will decline the $10.5m option and give him the $1m buyout and he will become a free agent.
Anything is possible, but I can't see that happening. He's still hitting well above 100 wRC+ and putting up over 2 fWAR per year, even while missing a month or two every year. Whether you're analyzing him on a per game basis (where he would be a top 3 player on almost every team in the league on a per game basis) or on a total season basis (where he's easily worth his $10MM salary), the end result is that a lot of teams would love to have him on their team.
Oh well, The club could have given Lowe a $1MM buyout and sent him to free agency but have instead locked in his $10.5MM salary for the upcoming season.
