Rays get their beloved Paredes back, plus a bunch of non tenders in this deal. At least Morel hits the ball hard when he makes contact.

Why would TB trade Fairbanks for a bunch of nontender guys when they could flip him for prospects?

Why? Paredes. They might get a better return for him. I'm just not a big fan. He was atrocious for the Cubs, at the plate and in the field. Made me miss Morel.

LOL. You make it sound like Paredes was the worst player in the original trade. Paredes didn’t hit well but he still logged 0.4 fWAR with the Cubs. Morel was atrocious. He hit for shit and was even worse in the field, putting up negative 0.8 fWAR in half a season with the Rays. You can reasonably expect Paredes to play better next year, but Morel looks like a waste of a roster spot (he’s prearb, so he won’t be nontendered, though he should be). I never liked what Morel brought to the table, but I must admit I was shocked by how bad a player he is.

Honest to God, mp, from what I know about baseball, I think Morel will be alright if he just lets the ball travel through the zone and takes a more center to right-center approach. He needs to see the ball better. With his quick swing he can park it. Rays have good coaches.

We will see. He’s still a huge negative in the field and that will never change. Rays fans love Bigge and Johnson though, so all in all the Rays restocked their pitching at a very high price. Paredes was great in Tampa because of the short porch in LF. He only hits HRs to LF, as I’m sure you know. With the Rays probably never playing baseball in the Trop again, he’s no longer a fit for the Rays (who have installed Caminero at 3B). What else do the Cubs need this offseason (besides pitching). I sense a fire sale coming to the Rays this offseason.

If I were Hoyer, I would try to sign Tanner Scott and go after a righty fireballer in the bullpen, like Joyce of Angels, or Miller from A’s. Maybe Williams if Brewers would trade within the Division, or, possibly, Fairbanks. But they need a star, like Guerrero or Acuna. I think the Jays would trade Guerrero straight up for Caissie. I would also be interested in Trout, with enough money coming back. So, to answer your question in a long winded way, a star and a closer, or two. Soto would be great but I don’t see it happening. Stupid Jed went over the first luxury tax threshold, so FA with a QA will cost them draft picks if I understand the rules correctly. Matt Shaw could also be that guy. Lastly they need to hire me to be their GM.
