Cubs have good four man rotation albeit none that top 93 MPH. They need a fifth starter and ideally someone that can be brought along that has some velo. Horner was displaced by Swanson at short and blocks their top prospect Matt Shaw at second. Trading Horner frees up about $10 million to solve other needs. On the Braves side they need more production out of the shortstop position. Horner is a good defender which the Braves value and has a better OBP than most of the current team. He pushes Arcia to utility role which at his current bat and salary is a good fit for him.

I bet they like Waldrep to much to do it

You have to give something to get something. While they like Waldrep, an everyday SS vs. a prospect might be too good to pass up. Plus they really need to get more production out of the bottom third of their lineup. Arcia/Kelenic/Murphy all struggled last season. While Murphy had a down year the other two were really near their norm. Plus behind their top four starters Sale/Lopez/Schwellenbach/plus Strider (in May or June) they have Anderson returning, Smith-Shawyer ahead of Waldrep, and another crop of starters not far behind. And they have no good options for a SS in their system. They could take a run at Adames but they will probably use that spot to try and get a left fielder than can push Kelenic to 4th OF status.
