3Rays were said to really like Pete at draft time, and with a profile very similar to their own C.Williams, I believe those reports. The rest of the trade package seems like organizational depth to me, which the Rays have plenty of. I’m not very high on Hancock or Canzone though.
My thought was the Rays might see something they can tweak to get Canzone and Hancock to successful levels at the big leagues and that they want out of the money on Lowe and to give more of their young infielders playing time next season.
My response is totally different now because of Hurricane Milton. I think you are right that the Rays will want out of almost all their “big” money deals, and while Lowe is technically subject to a team option for next year and isn’t guaranteed any more money, the Rays will surely exercise that option if only to trade him. I still think the Rays can do better in the return but we will see.
