1I like the creativity of this trade, but I just can't see it happening from the Rays' perspective. First things first, the Rays had Devenski in the first half of the year and cut him loose because he was awful. They won't want him back. Morel of course is a nontender candidate with how bad he played with the Rays. Even if Seattle wants Morel (and they can have him), his trade value won't be $12MM in the offseason. So this trade is really Lowe/Rort for Raleigh/Montes. Does this trade work for the Rays? An argument can be made that it does, but it seems as though the Rays are selling low on their guys and buying high on Seattle's. Rort had a great year until the last month or two of the season. Given his injury history and lack of playing time over the years as a result, I'm thinking he just hit the "rookie" wall and fell off. I expect him to play at a high level all year next year. Lowe of course started the year with several IL stints that killed any rhythm he was trying to get into and on top of that his mom was battling a brain tumor that had to have messed with his mind all year (thankfully, she seems to be doing better). I expect him to play a lot better next year. From Seattle's side, Raleigh had his usual great year and is fully valued as a result, and Montes had a coming out party of sorts that saw his trade value soar. Ultimately, this trade probably hurts the Rays in 2025-26 by making the outfield much weaker only to marginally improve the catcher position, and while I don't expect the Rays to contend next year, if they wanted to sell players for future prospects, I wouldn't expect Raleigh to be in this trade.
