Why for Giants: They maybe will be going big game hunting for an Alonso type for first so Wade might be moveable. Also maybe a big name outfielder (non Soto edition) to go along w/Lee and Ramos. Yes Matos is really good, but in return they get a top 3 starter in Nestor (I would prefer the Yankees to keep him, but I have a sneaking suspicion on a trade) and a controllable reliever. Why for Marlins: Edwards is really good, but the good bullpen they have could be volatile so cash in now. This way they get multiple “lottery” tickets. Arias is a ways away, but could have even more upside than Edwards. Jones can become the centerpiece of the lineup. Matos good CFer. Why for Yankees: All of my Yankee trades are overpays (“Yankee” tax), but this way they get a cheap replacement for Rizzo (love Wade’s versatility) as well as a controllable second baseman and set up man for the future. Soto is obviously priority #1,2,3,4 this offseason. If saving money on important positions like 2B and 1B (without relying sorely on rookies-Verdugo, Torres and Rizzo are all goners) gets you a better chance at Soto you take it every time. Jones is a big loss, but Judge and Dominguez and Soto is the OF of the next 3-5 years (before Judge becomes a 1B or DH). Soto needs to play some LF though. So no real room for Jones. Edwards is a great Leadoff candidate. Love the bat to ball skills at the top. Ben Rice can maybe replace Wade in 2026. We are then good to go.
