1The Astros probably should have traded for Diaz at the Deadline. Boy would I love to know what their best offer was for Diaz and what the Rays were asking for. In any event, the Rays are probably trading Diaz in the offseason given the nature of their Deadline trades, which suggests they are in a full rebuild (at least on the position player side). This trade seems a little light on Houston's part, but you have to assume Diaz will have a little less value in the offseason because of having a little less control remaining on his contract. The return to the Rays is a player (Dubon) capable of playing stopgap SS for 2025 until C.Williams is ready, thereby allowing the Rays to cut T.Walls loose, a high upside 2B prospect who might be able to play SS if C.Williams doesn't work out, and a potential SP (though I believe future closer).
