I understand why Bellinger may have some negative value to lots of clubs, but I think he has plus value to the Yankees, especially if the Cubs cover the remainder of his salary for 2024. First of all, he fills a need at 1B. Secondly, I don't think he will file for FA after the season, so he offers protection in case the Yanks can't resign Soto. If he files for FA, so what? Then the Yanks will have had him for free. If he re-ups and the Yanks sign Soto, so what? He takes over at 1B for Rizzo, at a slightly higher salary. 1.3 seasons at 30 mil. The key to the trade will be for both teams to realize how they can help each other, without overreaching. I don't think Belli has enough value to pry away Dominguez or Jones, but Pereira has upside and seems like a reasonable ask.
