4The Rays would also get Darrien Miller in this trade, but he is not available here. A 23 year old LHB catcher in AA rocking an 18% BB rate in 250 PA. Still has a ways to go, but if you can walk 18% of the time, you have an excellent base. Wiemer replaces Randy in LF for the Rays for now and gets the opportunity to sink or swim in hopes to regain his top prsopect status from just a year ago. Adam will give the Brewers 3 shutdown relievers for the playoffs. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/darrien-miller/sa3011330/stats?position=C
I like this trade, great find on Miller, not overly excited about Weimer cause he isn't exactly killing it as a 25 yo at AAA but there is a lot of potential there and young enough to still figure it out.
Agreed. Wiemer has been bad 2 years running, in both the Majors and the Minors. I’m not sure he should be a trade target.
Plays excellent defense. Like a defense GOD. 2023 statcast: 93 percentile OAA, 96% arm, 95th percentile overall defense value. Average exit velo, average barrell %, average BB rate. Awful strikeout rate, but average chase rate, so there's hope a more contact oriented approach could cut that. As we saw with KK for years, a 90 wRC+ bat with elite defense is very valuable. As we've seen with Walls, a 60 wRC+ bat with elite defense is worthless. The Rays are buying low on a defender they're hoping to improve the bat.
