46/29/24 Portland Transferred Luis Perales from the 7-day to the full-season injured list. TJ surgery
6/2/24 Boston Transferred Garrett Whitlock from the 15-day to the 60-day injured list. TJ surgery
And this trade reflects that updated value. Taillon has negative value. So does Whitlock. But the names have to balance out. I wouldn't suggest Taillon plus $13.1 million for Bobby Dalbec. Fans would rebel. But this trade sets up the 2026 Cubs with three years of Whitlock and six-plus years of Perales, as well as the fun right now in August and September of seeing what Dalbec can do in Wrigley.
Thanks, Ms. Dajuba. I know. Perales is still, post-TJ, the highest-ranking pitcher in the Red Sox system. Whenever he gets better, he resumes his career, and his six years of service time start whenever he reaches MLB. I could have added $6 million in future cash to pay Whitlock, but I cannot imagine that the Cubs would value that as much as Perales.
