The Mariners had a 10 game lead over the Astros. 24 games later., tied. Read that again. In 24 games, the Mariners blew a 10 game lead. I think if they miss the playoffs, the Mariners entire management gets fired. They only have 2 players with a 100 wRC+ on the year. They are about to do something super desperate, and the Rays are happy to be there to help them do it. The Rays get 2 premium pitchers, one of the best OF prospects in the game, and a MLB ready wildcard capable of playing all 3 OF spots.

Have you heard anything about what's happening with Yandy Diaz?
Nothing, other than "family matters". They said they consider it day to day, but putting him on the restricted list so that he doesn't get paid tells me they're probably pissed. The "bereavement list" has long been used for things other than bereavement, for when the player needs to tend to something for a few days. Wife ready to divorce you? Bereavement list. Kid doing weird shit in school? Bereavement. Cousin got arrested? Bereavement. So to go straight to "not getting paid list" is probably an unexcused absence. With that said, the Mets GM has a year long ban for misusing the lists that temporarily get you off the roster and someone else on it, so it might just be a new thing where teams won't misuse the bereavement list if the wife walked in on your threesome and she's threatening to take the kids to her mommas house.

Not the return I want at all from Seattle if we're trading that much value. No Ford or Celesten equals no deal for me. Rays don't need Woo added to a rotation that on paper is pretty damn good (Bradley, Baz, Pepiot, Springs, McClanahan, Littell and maybe even Rasmussen), even after Eflin gets traded at the deadline. Rays need to desperately improve catcher and SS, and maybe their young prospects Keegan and Williams work out, but if not, it would be nice to have an actual backup plan. Ford and Celesten would be a great backup plan.
Can never have enough pitching. Hell, tomorrow we're starting a guy who was pitching for the Long Island Ducks 3 weeks ago. The Rays don't target C prospects in any trade, so I'm not going to pretend like they will. Celestin is 19 playing in the complex league. I have no interest in him over Woo, Brash, Montes, Ford, etc.
