The Pirates need offense to back up their otherworldly pitching. Arozarena immediately slots in as their best hitter, and gets them closer to the post season. The Rays get 2 good P prospects to add to a strong system that lacks P.

I really don’t think you could get either one straight up for Arozarena, I think the Pirates would pass and I think they definitely pass on this 2 for 1 overpay deal.
I think you are vastly undervaluing Arozarena. Consistent 3-4 fWAR OF each of last 3 years, til a horrific April sunk his season. Since May 1, his wRC+ is 128, in line with career norms. Since June 1, he's been fantastic, with a 145 wRC+. There will be 15 teams calling about him next week, and the Rays aren't trading 3 years of him for a swingman. I the Pirates want to get into the WC hunt, they'll have to part with an actual decent prospect.
Pirates aren’t trading any SP other than Perez, Fleming or Jeffries. And I don’t think they should. They should acquire the offense they need during the off season with free agent signings. It has nothing to do with Arozarenas value.
The Pirates are 6 games out of the division with a .500 record. They just graduated the top pitching prospect since Strasburg, and have gone on a nice run. They should improve now, not in the offseason. Arozarena is there for 2 more seasons after this, gotten for pennies on the dollar right now, gotten for 2 prospects, neither of whom will sniff a top 100 list. Worry about next year next year. If I'm Pittsburgh, the playoffs is my goal.
