6Guards get a starter for now and a possible future arm for not much in return.
Looks like a salary dump, never mind the $13m Anderson gets in ‘25 (it’s 1yr, that can be figured out during the off season) can the Guardians afford the $5m for the rest of ‘24? I think they can easily but would they? Avila in this doesn’t seem to bad of a return, why include Bachman? Have the Angels soured on him?
Well you have the best record in the American League, Anderson is an All-Star, and they have exceeded their attendance projections up to this point. So to me Anderson is the guy the Guards should go get, his salary is not crazy plus they offered Bieber 12 million this year to not pitch. Anderson could help them next year as well. To me this seems like the type of trade the Guardians would make to help this year and next.
I could see the Angels considering this, but they'd probably just add some cash rather than sell low and throw in the towel on Bachman, who is starting to get healthy and command the ball in AA right now.
Trading Bachman makes no sense to me for the Angels when they have a need for pitching and he's got team control....
Is it not hard to understand Cleveland has actually plenty of budget room... They even stated it in the off season they have room to increase the budget so adding a player with that price isn't going to be a problem. Avila has been solid for Cleveland and Vogt wants a long man in the bullpen but would likely do this deal... Bachman though is a pure reliever for the Angels right now since he's only been a two pitch, pitcher in the bigs...
