4AJ Preller is a big-move type of GM, and righty reliever capable of pitching 1.5 to 2 innings is the team's biggest need.
Aren't the Padres going to need Mazur for SP depth this season? De Vries feels a little too far away for Forst's taste and multiple reports have Snelling's stuff backing up this year.
Mazur was just sent back down to AAA since Darvish is slated to return to the rotation in a few days. But it's a fair point, a lot will probably depend on how the next month goes. Ideally Darvish can stay healthy, Musgrove will look to be on track to return after the ASB. Vasquez would be the depth. If that best-case scenario occurs, adding a high leverage right handed reliever will be the priority and I'm sure Preller would at least approach the A's. As for DeVries, if you say the A's GM doesn't like younger prospects then I believe it. To me if you can get a good SS prospect in your system and the price is right why wouldn't you?
They drafted Jacob Wilson 1.6 last year and he had made his way to AAA before a knee injury (he's currently rehabbing in the ACL). De Vries isn't a glove-first SS prospect, so as long as you believe in the bat there's a lot of flexibility for where he can end up.
