The Pirates are once again surprisingly at the top of thier division early on (with the Brewers). When this has happened in 2020s, they have stuck to the long term plan and did not add, eventually cratering into the bottom dweller we have come to expect. This year however, there is a lot more to like about this team. I think if they add they can make some noise in the central. One of the things they need is another middle of the rotation type starter. So far this season Keller has rightfully taken the title of ace after his extension, I am not worried about his very early 4.50 ERA. Martin Perez was a spectacular add, a now underrated solid guy if you ask me, he has started off very well. Top prospect Jared Jones has added some new electricity to the team, and I see him as a solid 4th guy this year. The last two spots are a mash of fallen top prospects who have yet to prove to be every 5th day guys (Preister, Contreras) and veteran place holders like Bailey Falter and Marco Gonzalez who just aren't good anymore. Luis Ortiz is an electric arm who is much better as a reliever, and has fit very well there this year so far. Enter Bailey Ober, who has had a rough start to the season, but has been very reliable the past two seasons, putting up ERAs of 4.19, 3.21, and 3.43 the past 3 years. He gives another solid starter to the rotation without compromising much future value, if at all, for the Pirates. I can see them pulling the trigger on this type of trade. Oviedo was a flash in the pan upgrade last year, but with all the pitching prospects the Pirates have, he doesn't really seem to have a home in Pitt. Triolo is a nice story, and useful player, but they already have better hitting utility guys. //// For the Twins, I don't think they get into the playoffs this year. There is a distinct possibility the finish in 4th place, though I think they get 3rd. They make this trade to add extra pieces with potential, and ship Ober before arbitration. Oviedo takes Ober's spot, at leats until Marco Raya and others are ready to get some big league experience. He has all the tools and weapons to be a young mid rotation guy, but his command and polish are not there. Triolo gives another utility player that can hit pretty well and can play 3 different positions. Both guys are controllable for a while.
