13With the Twins also getting cash I like this deal. Get a 4th OF who can handle CF and hits righties along with a lottery ticket prospect in exchange for a (admittedly very good glove) glove first SS without a place to play in the next couple years
even with $5.5 mil included, LAD is in 110 % CBT tier so they save 4.5x 1.1 = 9.5m AAV in2024 -- this balances trade for LAD. E Hernandez will likely be 3-4m. (I've been trying to trade Margot for months on this site -- I believe Twins could not sign Kike bc he wanted to stay w/ LAD) Update: turns out P/R neutral after signing Hernandez for 4m -- Still prefer kike's versatiity / RHB splits (inc CF) and clubhouse value.
MN likes to pick up players that teams want to get rid of.
As a Twins fan. IMO a good swap for both teams. Miller won the minor league gold glove last season. Some say he could play MLB level SS defense right now. The stick leaves a lot to be desired. Plus, the Twins have 3-4 guys ahead of him at SS due to his offense. Twins get one season cheap and a second at or below what it would cost for a league average to a little better outfielder, if they pick up the option and a lotto pick to boot. Win/Win
I would've prefered that the Dodgers got Cory Lewis instead of Noah Miller, but it is what it is.
Jefferson Quero wins the minor league GG at catcher & his value is 24. 2 & Noah Miller wins it at SS his value is 2.5? I know that it isn't as simple as that but it's a big difference. Miller is an elite SS, the Twins should have known his value to the club & kept him.
It's based on prospect ratings from public sources. Quero is rated much more highly than Miller. Winning a gold glove in the minors as a single data point isn't really a basis for comparison.
Jefferson Quero had a .779 OPS at AA last year Noah Miller had a .649 OPS at A+ last year That might be why
Querro can hit... Miller can't ... simple as that. Catchers that can hit and have great defense are gold. SS who can field but can't hit are a dime a dozen and rarely in this day and age make it. 30 years ago.. okay but not today.
The cash is probably the $4M Tampa sent to LA in the previous deal, which, by rule, has to follow Margot. It's already baked into our numbers here.
Sounds like the Twins got an additional $1.5 million in addition to the $4 million attached.
Miller won't be ready for MLB until at least another 2 years.
Miller has a very good glove... can't hit a lick.. if he makes the show I would be STUNNED!!
