2I did this as an exercise, in response to another trade proposal that involves sending Adames to the Braves, where he would be an upgrade at shortstop over Orlando Arcia. A big problem with that proposed trade is that Adames' salary, without any offset, puts the Braves over the third luxury tax threshold. Also, it involved sending a currently-injured top pitching prospect to the Brewers, which both teams might reject for different reasons. For the Brewers, Minter immediately becomes the top lefthander in their bullpen. Winans can start or be a multi-inning reliever. He had some bad BABIP luck last year, so his FIP/xFIP are a lot better than his ERA. And he has options remaining. Fuentes is an 18-year-old prospect who pitched in Low-A last year to middling results, but he's still regarded as a mid-ranked prospect. Both Adames and Minter would be rentals, and for the Braves, sending Minter offsets enough of Adames' salary that they avoid the tax threshold. Winans is one of a flock of back-end starter candidates the Braves have in camp, so they might regard him as a spare part.
Brewers reject this right away. Minter is a rental they won't re-sign. At least the Braves have the finances to re-sign Adames. Milwaukee doesn't want teenagers. Winans is already 28 and little more than an AAAA type pitcher and like most teams, the Brewers have more than enough of those. Milwaukee would rather have Adames and the draft pick they'll get for him.
