1This is the sort of trade the Angels should be making, but probably won't. Sandoval has had a pretty good last two years, but he does still carry reliever risk. However, as a LHP, he might thrive in Yankee Stadium. Moniak is a glove-first outfielder, but since the Yankees are pulling in people from off the street to play outfield right now (especially with Dominguez missing the first half of the season due to TJ surgery), Moniak could help them. Jones becomes the Angels' future CF, starting in 2025. Selvidge had a surprisingly good season split between Low-A and High-A last year, and Baseball America chose him as their sleeper pick in the Yankees' system for 2024. The bad-contract-swap portion of the trade doesn't really work. Assuming that Mike Trout will be the Angels' full-time DH in 2024, that doesn't leave Stanton a place in the lineup, and I don't know what the Yankees would want with the perpetually injured Rendon. But the core of the trade looks like a good one for both teams, but especially for the Angels. Which is why they won't do it. Sigh.
