6Cleveland has no need for a utility player.
Like the offer isn't bad, but Cabrera isn't any better of a hitter than Freeman... Makes no sense for Cleveland...
They could use some help at 1B, RF and DH. Besides Warren is the real pick up there for the Guardians he's cost effective and offsets the loss of Bieber, which is important to a team like the Guardians, and ML ready. Their offense in 2023 was not very good every little bit helps. if they hold on to Bieber until the deadline he'll lose a lot of value with just 2 months of control. The choice is there's.
Cleveland doesn't need help at 1B not with Naylor, Manzardo and Fry... They will actually be pretty good that way. It was DH not 1B that didn't produce with hitting. Adding in Manzardo from the Civale trade will give them another young bat who has a very good floor... When it comes to Will Warren, Cleveland is a command over velocity organization and Warren is a velo over command type of SP... Like I get getting him, and I wouldn't be against it, but Cabrera is a lesser hitter than Freeman who will get OF time this season. I have absolutely no qualms with the return for Bieber on paper, but Cabrera won't make Clevelands roster even in a bench role. He would be hard pressed to actually outplay Rocchio and Freeman for the bench spot, plus they went and grab DDLS in the Rule 5 and he is a right handed power bat... I wouldn't be mad if Cleveland did this move, but I really doubt these two are on Cleveland's list of a return for Bieber...
You are correct that Cleveland doesn't need help at 1B, and they don't need help at DH either. Not that Cabrera brings any help at any of those positions anyway or offensively if we're speaking truths. Freeman is a better all around player. Where you are mistaken is the falsehood that Cleveland only takes pitchers with command. They've taken plenty of kids that lacked control with Clemmey being the most frequent. There was Mace and the inclusion of Wolf in the Lindor deal. There are plenty more as well. Bimbo told you that over at RCF awhile back. Regardless, Cleveland isn't interested in dealing Bieber at his low value so if a team wants him it will have to be more than what is expected around here. Especially with a good portion of his velocity back and his breaking ball being better than ever.
They aren't going to have a main piece return for someone like Bieber be a pitcher with command issues... Now of course a PTBNL or a BPA in the draft, could have those issues, but normally they do target command over velo... Outside of Clemmey, how many players have they targeted in the upper rounds if the draft and/or main players in a trade that lacked command?
