Alternatively, this allows the M’s to keep ahold of the majority of their prospects, but weakens their rotation/strengthens a direct rival.

Xfactor

No chance Baltimore or Chicago say yes. Someone clearly thinks waaaay highly of Gilbert. He and arroyo are all Seattle is giving up for 4 cost controlled years of Robert? Really?!

Gilbert also has 4 years of control who has pitched to a mid 3 ERA with close to K/9 of 9 and BB/9 under 2 over the last 2 seasons resulting in 6 WAR. Robert has been worth 7 WAR over the past two seasons, but presents considerably more injury concerns than Gilbert. If the Mariners had to replace Arroyo with another prospect or add another top 15 prospect from their system it would probably be fine. If the O’s could get Gilbert for pretty much two top 30 prospects though, that would be a massive win for them as their rotation would be set for a while with Bradish and Rodriguez.
