Even with the added value (Cortes & Hampton especially) I just don’t see the Padres trading for DJ’s contract. If this would have happened it would have occurred in December when the Soto trade happened.

Intresting, I'm guessing from your reply, you are a Yankee fan. Padre fans have a cult like love for Kim, however I love this trade as a padre fan. They would get an outfielder who could get a real shot to be there for awhile. Though Jones is the guy I really think would be a prize for the Padres. But I think Jones is their insurance if they don't resign Soto. Hampton I really like as a prospect, and Cortes could be in the rotation for two years. The thing about the Padres is, this trade on their end gets Crone back to his original position (2b), and you have D.J. as your 1b for the time being. The one issue from the front office perspective is, I know San Diego wants left handed bats, and left handed arms... both are in short supply, and the yankee's package is all righties.
