3Houston gets Fried to replace in the rotation and Minter to replace Graveman in the Bullpen. And the Braves pay the salaries saving Houston money. Braves get Valdez for 2 years and it does not look like they care about the luxury tax until next year
I think the Braves are accounting for the lux tax in 2024. It's the implications of the Chris Sale trade that give me reason to think this is the case. As I understand it, they're under the 3rd threshold, but not by much. I see that as articulated. All said, I'd rather my favorite team, the Braves, keep the money, not go over that luxury tax amount and ride on in 2024 with Minter and Fried. I like Framber Valdez a ton. Maybe next year or at the deadline.
yes the 12M that Valdez is getting for 2024 would put the Braves over the 277M tax threshold by about 3M. But Atlanta would only be at ~200M in 2025 so staying under the luxury tax would not be that hard with a rotation of Valdez, Strider, and Sale already on the books.
