13Seems great for Miami. Wonder how guardian fans view it.
I am against trading Rocchio. I think by the end of the 2024 season, he will be the Guardian's regular shortstop.
He's not going to replace Arias. He's not as good defensively and he doesn't have Arias' offensive upside. The worst you're going to get with Arias is Willy Adames and his ceiling is one of the best power hitting, GG SS in MLB. You have to factor in the talent and not just look at the numbers. Cleveland's brass understands this and that's why Arias is our SS. I should emphasize that Rocchio is also an excellent defensive SS with a better contact skill than Arias. He's a very good starting SS caliber prospect, but Arias' talent is ridiculous. Hopefully we see it surface more in 24 as he turns 24.
I haven't seen enough out of Arias to convince me on him as the future. We will see.
...and you've seen "enough" out of Rocchio to convince you? Rocchio performed worse than Arias in their MLB debuts.
Arias has had 362 at bats with the Guardians while Rocchio has had only 81. Not an equal evaluation period so far. Just saying.
I don’t understand the acclaim for Arias. He was awful in 2023, and it’s not like he tore it up in the minors. His versatility is a plus (unlike Rosario), but I think he’s eventually a utility guy. I see him going the Oscar route. They’ll start him in 2024, realize he’s not the answer (and crater any trade value he had), then likely go to Rocchio. My preference is to move Gimenez to SS (he’s the better defensive SS by far), give Freeman a chance at 2B (until Brito is ready), trade Arias and Rocchio and keep Tena as the utility guy. At least solves most of the MIF mess. I just think you are seeing something in Arias that’s not there.
I don't disagree that Andres may be better at SS, but Arias is really good there in his own right and has a cannon. He also has the potential to bring what the Guardians need so desperately, RHH power. If his floor is an above avg defensive SS and 20 HR, he's worth an extended look.
As a Guards fan I'd like to get a little more for Rocchio, but I would be very pleased with this trade atm. There is a very real chance that Rocchio just has nowhere to play this year with Arias getting the first chance at SS and Freeman potentially playing the utility role. If we can get a good return for BR now we have other infielders waiting in the wings if Arias doesn't work out.
I think the Marlins need to get bats almost at all cost. Trading Cabrera and Luzardo will get the job done. The bats can get some experience waiting for Alcantara to return.
I’m also very high on Rocchio. I would prefer he got the first crack at SS, but as you noted they seem to like Arias. IMO I just don’t see Arias as a viable starter, but Rocchio can bring back more value and Cleveland needs SP depth. I think Cabrera’s issues can be fixed and he can slot in as a strong #4. I don’t have much faith McKenzie or Bieber (who I prefer they trade) will make much of an impact this year due to injuries. Hope I’m wrong! A good trade.
Cleveland wouldn't do this trade by itself... If Cleveland got a legit bat in another deal then they would consider this. Cleveland lacks offense so trading Rocchio and getting more SP talent doesn't make a ton of sense. I would understand why Cleveland makes this deal especially IF Bieber gets dealt.
This Guardian fan would gladly accept. Seems beneficial for both teams IMO and an excellent post.
