4Why the Giants like this deal: Solves their middle infield problem right now and into the future.. He's the SF Giants perfect fit.. plays 2B/SS (he's best at SS) and can slide over to 3B in the event he's needed defensively.. With his high baseball IQ.. he's the model the SF Giants like to use on and off the field.. Moving on from Bart won't hurt the SFFO feelings, at all.. Why the Giants dislike the deal.. Giving away a kid like Winn at this point could harm their depth arms.. Why the Guardians like this deal: Winn moves to the back of the pen, giving the Guardians a pair of high leverage FB/Splitter pen arms. Bart answers the need for a RHH catcher to back up Bo for the next couple of years.. Rayner Arias is the "lottery ticket" any club in baseball would love to see as an addition.. Why the Guardians dislike this deal: some lame & untrue belief that the Guardians have a superb defensive minded back up catcher who hits right handed (pure BS both offensively and defensively).. Thoughts?
Why don't the Giants just go with Marco Luciano at SS? He's one of their top prospects and already got his feet wet with the big league club in 2023. Rocchio's ability to play 2B and 3B is negated in the immediate by Thairo Estrada (3.9 fWAR) and J.D. Davis (2.2 fWAR) holding down those respective positions.
I feel like Rocchio is slightly better than Luciano as an overall prospect, but they probably won't spend 23 to go get him either...
Cleveland spent 4 million on Hedges to be the backup plus they have a way more versatile Fry on the roster to fill in at catcher Like the whole idea of the concept it fine... There just isn't a spot for Bart in Cleveland since he is out of options.
