2The Red Sox have been eyeing an outfielder in FA (e.g., Hernandez). If unsuccessful, they could pivot to a trade like this and get a subsidized Taylor at $10MM AAV with positional versatility as well as a controllable SP with upside in Grove since the Dodgers have a surplus of SP on the 40-man roster. In this scenario, the Dodgers might land Hernandez to fill a corner OF spot, but they could use a LHH off the bench and may see Valdez as a bat-first middle infielder to complement Rojas (defense first).
I don't see Valdez as a fit for the Dodgers. He seems fairly redundant to LHH Busch, who the Dodgers are already looking to move — as he is effectively blocked by Betts (2B) and Muncy (3B). LHH Lux is projected to be the starting SS, but he'd be available off the bench (or shifted to 2B) when RHH Rojas starts. The Dodgers also have RHH Vargas for 2B/3B depth.
