8Mariners missed the sacred post season by two games last year and need to replace two bats (CoF'er and DH). In a deal they would be hard pressed to get any two better better (KO numbers and high OBP )and cost efficient than Arozarena and Ramirez. Aroz becomes a fan favorite and star in Seattle next to Rodriquez. They keep all their pitching (they are concerned with depth) and are even better shape if they sign Snell. It costs them no one who will have an impact for at least two years. Rays clear two 40 man slots. restock their system in areas of need and finally get the catcher of their future in Ford. I'm high on Gonzalez as being star in 2-3 years (substitute Montes mp if you want). Trading Aroz/Ramirez basically puts them on the fringe of a play-off spot in 2024 so why not forego a young ML starter in Woo/Miller and do what they do best. Add two very good arms in Phillips who should be a stud once he gets back from TJS(never scared off the Rays before) and another even younger prospect in H.S. pick Walter Ford(19) who is a big kid with great potential and time to develop in the Rays system.
I don't think there's any chance the Rays are trading Ramirez at a $1.5MM valuation. Not when he's making abut 20% what JD Martinez makes for similar production. I also don't think the Rays will have any desire to add Phillips. Their 40 man is constantly stretched thin, and Phillips will just clutter it up further with how far away he is. W.Ford is so far away that I have few thoughts on him, but his profile looks like a reliever to me. Probably best to just stick to Aroz for H.Ford plus Montes/Gonazales plus another small MLB ready piece.
Harry Ford, Gabriel Gonzalez, Cole Phillips, Walter Ford are not on the 40 man roster for the Mariners
I was implying that Phillips will require 40 man protection if he's any good by the time he's in A+ to AA, and that that's problematic for the Rays.
Things seem to work out well with the Rays 40 man crunch from year to year, especially with injuries to younger prospects, many teams dealing with similar 40 man crowding issues each year (seems there may be less teams selecting players who may not be able to be protected as before) and the Rays ability to move guys off the 40 man for a variety of reasons when needed.

Ramirez will likely get an arbitration raise to over 4 million dollars one way or another which will increase his trade value(come February/March) Rays may not want to pay him that much depending on how they view this season. And if that goes to 9-10 million in his last year of arbitration, Rays certainly will try to move him next winter then. Question is do you feel Ramirez for W. Ford and Phillps aren't worth between 2-4 million right now and could it be a really good move if they have good years this season
I go back and forth on Ramirez. He hits over .300 overall, which is an uncommon trait among Rays players, but I’d also like to see the Rays open up playing time for Aranda, who I think is ready to break out.
