Regardless of the other moves the dodgers make (likely includes Yama and Hader plus trades like the Kim and Paredes trades I proposed before), the Dodgers will be close to or over the Cohen tax. To avoid this, the trade proposed moves the Utility/OF player Taylor to the mets. This is not a unproductive player, simply one overpaid, and would help the mets fill in areas of weakness. Further, we know the mets would tank in the likely scenario they miss out on yama, so Cohen would likely accept eating salary for prospect. Dodgers move off someone productive but overpaid in an area they already have strength, and Mets would in return essentially upgrade their prospect for De Paula. This is slightly beneficial for the dodgers because many of their OF are on one-year contracts and walking next year, so this gives them a more immediately promotable older prospect.
