4Cleveland has no need for Polanco. They already have the AL Platinum Glove winner at 2B and plenty of depth to try at SS where Polanco is not good at anyway.
It's too bad Cleveland and Minnesota are division rivals. They each have something the other team needs. The Twins need a SP who could be a #2 behind Lopez. Is Bieber that guy? One version of him is. The other is a guy who's lost some velo and durability and is a bit of a risk. Cleveland needs offense and with Gimenez moving to SS Polanco is a good fit at 2B. The Twins are over paying here to clinch a deal and beat out offers from teams like the Cubs, Dodgers or Reds who might be in on Bieber. The Guardians like what the switch hitting Polanco could bring to their lineup. While it's a risk for the Twins it's worth it if you can get the right version of Bieber. A rare inter-division trade that works for both teams.
But that Platinum Glove winner at 2B is moving to SS. Who else are you thinking Cleveland plays at 2B? If Gimenez doesn't stay at SS like he did after the Rosario trade, who is playing SS for you. And clearly, the current version of Bieber is not the Cy Young version.
Gimenez did not move to SS after the Rosario trade. He stayed at 2B and that is the plan for 2024. Gimenez is not moving to SS. Cleveland really likes him at 2B where he has excelled defensively. Cleveland has prospect Bryan Rocchio to add to the SS mix with Gabriel Arias and Tyler Freeman with others down the pipeline. Cleveland needs help in the outfield not in the infield.
