11Cubs get an athletic first baseman with power that doesn't strike out much and gets on base, plus someone that can take the ball in game 2/3 of playoff series for a year until the younger arms in the Org are ready. Cubs eat big Barlow salary, in addition to large Naylor and Bieber salaries, to help out Guardians. Guardians get 3 arms that can potentially start, but at least have potential to be power arms out of the pen. Lot of control on arms that can help the MLB club, save a lot of money, and get some cheap power in Wisdom who can play the 4 corner defensive positions.
Cleveland just traded a reliever on a cheaper salary to get Scott Barlow so his salary is not a problem for the Guardians. Teams have asked on Naylor, but Cleveland is not shopping him so his salary is also not a problem for the Guardians. Also Naylor is so much better a player than Wisdom. Bieber may be traded, but it will be to provide need help, not this package.
Cleveland saved money by DFA'ing Quantrill and trading for Barlow. They are taking calls on Naylor and Bieber mainly because of their salaries. Their TV partner filed for bankruptcy. Money is definitely a problem, they will cut costs. It just might not be for that package I proposed. We'll see what kind of studs they end up acquiring
Salaries will remain at 2023 levels not cut. They just signed Austin Hedges to a $4M contract so they certainly can afford $7M for Naylor who is their 2nd best offensive player for a team that needs offensive help.
They save $20 million dollars in my trade. They need to add another big bat to their lineup, at least 1. How can they do that without first cutting money elsewhere? What if they were able to sign Ryu and Soler with the money they save in my deal? You wouldn't trade 2 years of Naylor and 1 year of Bieber for 1 year of Soler, 1 year of Ryu, 5 years of Wesneski, 3 years of Wisdom, and 6 years of 2 minor league arms? Kwan LF Laureano RF Ramirez 3B Soler DH Gimemez 2B Bo Naylor C Manzardo / Wisdom 1B Rocchio SS Straw CF
I will repeat - the Guardians can afford the projected $7M for Josh Naylor. That is money well spent. If they paid $4M for Austin Hedges, they certainly would pay $7M for Josh Naylor. Bieber may be traded, but they will want the needed bat in his trade return. That is where any savings will occur. Naylor is not getting traded.
So how can they improve their roster if they're not raising payroll? Let's hear your plan of how they acquire multiple players to improve their team without giving up anybody or increasing payroll?
Dude, they traded for Kyle Manzardo knowing they would trade Josh Naylor. Come on now. It's not about affording $7M now, it's about now being able to afford his next contract in 2 years.
They acquired Manzardo to improve their roster. Plain and simple. They can play both between 1B and DH. They can also try to move Naylor back to RF where he has played before. Cleveland has definitely has room for both Naylor and Manzardo.
I don't think you're understanding me. You're arguing that there's room for both on the roster.. duh, they are both on the roster. The fact is Naylor has 2 years on his contract. Maybe the Guardians will go try to win a world series in that 2 year span. Or maybe they'll trade Naylor, Bieber, and/or Clase and then use cash savings to buy a bat. We'll see what happens, we'll see who is right. Time will tell
Trade a bat to buy a bat does not make progress. It just shuffles the deck. Your logic does not make sense to me. I expect Naylor to be a Guardian. If Clase is traded, it will be for significant offensive help or it won't happen.
