If it is true that Seattle reached out to the Brewers about Wong's availability then I think this would be trade off.

Why would Milwaukee want a 17yo SS thats never played above the Dominican Leagues? Chances are the Brewers will want pitching in return for Wong

If you take a look at the Teoscar trade, Seattle gave up two pitchers there. I don't think that Seattle will be too inclined to give up pitching for a guy they have for 1 year. I'm a Brewer fan. I'm guessing you are as well. One thing I see way too much of on this board is unrealistic expectations from Brewers fans. Arroyo is 17. So what? The Mariners paid a hefty sum to secure him out of the international pool. It was something like $1.3 million dollars. The guy's hit tool provides a solid foundation for meaningful advancement to the majors. The last time the Brewers took an even bigger gamble on a player from the Mariners organization it was for someone similar. His name is Freddy Peralta.

Stearnsfan: I'm with augold on this one. Nobody knows where a 17 year old kid will end up. He's a lottery ticket at that age. For every Peralta there are a ton of these young kids who never make it close to the big leagues. Wong was extended to help win in 2023 while the Brewers still have a decent shot with their pitching. Nobody can predict where the Brewers will be in 4-5 years when this kid is ready, if he ever is. We know they have a legitimate shot at the playoffs in 2023 if Arnold can fill holes.

That's precisely the point. No one knows where a 17 year old kid will end up. Trading anything in this game is a gamble. Arroyo, however, profiles to be about what we could reasonably expect in a trade if you trust the site metrics. In fact, it is a "minor overpay" by site standards. Additionally, we don't know if Wong was extended to help win in 2023. Wong's current skills and salary make him attractive enough for a team that wants to win now. That's enticing for a team like the Mariners or the Orioles. They seem to be aware that you never know what the future holds. Wong could have been extended for this very reason. He brings value now. jmont1 you may not have seen my other recent trade scenarios prior to this one. If not, I theorize that it would be best if Wong be moved to allow Turang to become the 2nd baseman in 2023. Wong's $10 million would then be apportioned to address the current arbitration process for those pitchers you reference. You are also correct that no one can predict where the Brewers will be in 4 years when this kid is ready. I politely say, "So?" By then, with any luck, the Brewers will have to deal with the same situation with a group of outfielders and they will need very good, controllable players to balance out that lot.
