3This trade solidifies the cardinals bullpen and frees up around 20 million dollars to allow the cardinals to pursue Yamamoto. The only reason the cardinals would do this trade is if they were sure they could get Yamamoto as they still seem to believe in Carlson and are hesitant to trade Matz after his really good end of the year. The marlins seem to have a pretty good surplus of both relief and starting pitchers so trading 2 members of the bullpen and a good pitching prospect in Fulton for two solid bats (+ 3 years of control for Carlson) and Matz makes sense to me at least correct me if I’m wrong.
Good from Card's viewpoint but the Marlins need SS and catcher/s not more OF's.
Think Tommy Edman instead of Carlson and maybe a bit more from the Marlins?
