7I like the Santander and Norby combo! It seems unlikely the Guards would deal a pitcher this early in his career, since they tend to hold on to guys for at least a few years before moving them, but I would be happy with the Guards if they made this deal.
Cleveland has no need for two more middle infielders. Cleveland could have some interest in Norby if they believed he could transition to RF. Stowers does little to help Cleveland as well. Cleveland can not afford to sign free agent pitchers so I don't see them trading a controllable starter like Allen.
Norby has been transitioning to LF at AAA, but no games in RF.
Cleveland likely has no need for Santander and his 1 yr of control. Cleveland will likely be looking for a RHH OFer that can hit the ball over the fence frequently, but he has to fit into the contention window that starts in 2025. Santander doesn't do that and neither does Stowers since he hits from the wrong side of the plate. Ortiz is a fit only if 2 of Arias, Rocchio, Tena or Freeman are moved. Cleveland's MIF situation is nothing short of a logjam that is going to get worse in short order so taking on more MIFers is nonsensical. GSon's idea of involving a team in need of a MIFer is a good one. Norby has OF experience and a decent amount of power so he's the best fit for Cleveland in this deal, but Baltimore isn't getting Allen with Norby. Keep in mind that Bieber is likely to be dealt before the season starts and only has 1 yr remaining anyway. They've dealt Quantrill and released Plesac awhile back. The SP depth for the 24 season is not what it needs to be so dealing Allen makes absolutely no sense from Cleveland's perspective unless there is another SP or 2 acquired/signed in accordance to this deal. They'd just be attempting to correct a problem and creating another one.
Wow, healthy comments. Just a FYI - if you believe Cleveland is looking for a RH hitting OF'er with a some pop check Hudson Haskin. Will be in Rule 5 draft (O's didn't protect him), has had injury problems that have limited his ABs, primarily a CF'er, pretty good hitter. Check him in Baseball Reference if you are unfamiliar with him. If he gets through to Cleveland might be worth a flyer and a camp invite.
He's been mentioned a few times, but not recently. Thanks for the R5 heads up. He might be someone Cleveland has some interest in.
The addition of two middle infielders by the Guardians asks the question.. So, which one to keep to add to a collection that is already burgeoning? For the Guardians, it has to be Connor Norby.. Norby has already shown the ability to play the OF.. and is a RHH.. just what the Guardians will need candidates for replacements after the 2024 season.. So, that answers the question: where are all these guys going to play???? So, when a player with major league talent is blocked by another guy with major league talent, it's time to get a third team involved.. The Mariners could be more than a little interested in Joey Ortiz.. Keeping the above deal as stated.. the Guardians & Mariners then complete the following: Mariners get Joey Ortiz Guardians get Emerson Hancock & Jonatan Clase from the Mariners Adding Anthony Santander Connor Norby and Kyle Stowers, completes the Guardians "haul" for their young controllable SP... Oh.. and the Orioles get Logan T Allen.. The dollar values check out...the needs of the teams check out.. the only thing that blows this out of the water is it's a deal involving Baltimore.. and that has risks all unto itself.. Thoughts??
