3The Mariners clear up their rotation and the Reds clear up their infield. Seattle reunites with its former top prospect, Marte and adds future infielders. I don’t think that a potential log jam in the infield in 2-3 years turns the Mariners away. If they really don’t need all of them, they could flip them for something that they will need or start teaching one of them outfield defense. Besides, Marte is already ready. Cincinnati may not be keen on giving up Friedl but see it as a requirement to get Gilbert. They also receive a high level, low value outfield bat to test in the majors.

They have 8 pitchers who can start in 2024. They really don’t need all of them and they have a need in the offense.
