5This is an odd trade. Would the D-Backs really trade Jones for a young pitcher who hasn't gotten his sea legs under him yet? From the Rays' side, they aren't in the market for immediate help in the outfield, particularly a lefty cornerfielder (ie: they don't really need McCarthy) and they do need high end pitching more than anything (ie: they are unlikely to want to trade Bradley), but Jones is a special talent. I think this trade is very unlikely from both teams' perspectives, but it's an interesting possibility.
That’s a great analysis. Thank you. I don’t know much about the Rays, but maybe they trade from their more expensive OF surplus? I truly think Jones is going to be available and will shock many when he is traded. Young SP is what the DBacks need. A Gallen Jazz type trade coming up again.
The Rays' outfield consists of Aroz, J.Siri, L.Raley, and J.Lowe. They also have Margot and Ramirez, but both of them are likely to be traded. Aroz is a RHB expected to make $9Mm next year. Everyone else is prearb and considered part of the core of the team. I believe Aroz is likely to be traded this year to cut costs, but it depends on trade offers. They could also trade Y.Diaz or B.Lowe, who will both make around $8MM next year. If they trade Aroz, they'll probably want to bring in a RHB 4th outfielder, but maybe not. They could have C.Mead log time in the outfield next year too. If the Rays trade a starting pitcher, it will almost certainly be Glasnow. They might also trade Fairbanks too, if the D-Backs are interested in a flamethrower reliever.
Aroz would also fit a big need for AZ. With some financial also in AZ Aroz having 3 years fits the window of Gallen having 2 years left of control. I know Jones value here doesn’t match up with Aroz, I would be hesitant to trade too much of the farm depth right now. Fairbanks probably too expensive of a luxury for them with Ginkel and Seawald a pretty solid 8th and 9th combination.
What about something like this for Aroz - https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades/147663
